The Kingdom of Cleveland is located on the east coast of England
At approximatly 2am on the 26th Sept 1983 nuclear weapons begin detonating over the United Kingdom.
At approximatly 2.20am the two 100 kiloton bombs aimed for the Tees valley area detonated, however they missed their designated target due to electromagnetic interferance from the detonations in the Tyne and Wear valleys.
- One exploded 7 miles north of Hartlepool, 40 metres under the North Sea due to a malfunction of the detonator. This caused a five metre radioactive tsunami to strike the coast killing many thousands in the towns of Hartlepool, Redcar, Marske, Warrenby, Southbank and Dormanstown.
- One exploded 12 miles south of Middlesbrough over the practically uninhabited North Yorkshire Moors after burying itself 30 feet underground in a peat bog.
The weather at the time of the bombing was a temperature about freezing point, a north easterly wind blowing at 15 miles per hour, with thick sea fog upto ten miles inland. Due to the detonations the fog cleared almost instantly and high level clouds formed, these produced heavy rain over the next three days.
Although the bombs themselves missed, radioactive fallout from the bomb that exploded in the North sea blew inland on the prevailing North-east winds and then fell in rain that fell in the following three days.
Other Bombs in the North of England fell:
- one 200 kiloton bomb on Newcastle.
- one 200 Kiloton bomb on Sunderland.
- one 100 Kiloton bomb on Durham.
- one 100 Kiloton bomb on York.
Other tactical nuclear weapons (approximatly 5 - 10 Kilotonnes) fell on military bases in and around the area:
- RAF Linton on Ouse - North Yorkshire.
- RAF listening base and radar station Fylingdales - North Yorkshire.
- RAF Bulmer - Northumberland.
- RAF Menwith Hill - joint UK/US base - North Yorkshire
- RAF Carlile - Cumbria
- RAF Spadeadam - Cumbria
- RAF Holmpton - East Yorkshire
- RAF Leconfield - East Yorkshire
- RAF Church Fenton - North Yorkshire
- RAF Dishforth (Airforce)/AAC Dishforth (Army)- North Yorkshire
- RAF Leeming - North Yorkshire
- RAF Radar station Staxton Wold - North Yorkshire
- RAF Topcliffe - North Yorkshire
Due to extensive education about the after effects of a nuclear bomb attack the british people knew that the priory after an attack was to stay in shelter a minimum of 3 days, five would be better. However people living close to the cities of Durham and Sunderland began moving south and east towards the Tees valley and Yorkshire as soon as the sun came up on the morning of the 26th September. This was mainly due to the fact that the high cloud base was reflecting the colour of burning everywhere else.
Due to people being outside as the radioactive fall out was still coming down the majority of the refugees would die within the next two weeks of radiation based illness and hypothermia as night time temperature fall well below freezing. Mass graves are dug near the town of Sedgefield it is estimated that 175,000+ people are buried in these mass graves as exact figures are hard to come by as records are so sparce from this time.
By 12pm on the 27th September heavy rain begins to fall over the entire area it rains solidly for the next 36 hours, this helps wash away radioactive dust and also helped extinguish the burning ruins of Sunderland and Newcastle as the radioactive soot formed by the burning was beginning to fall across the area.
Over the next month radioactive fallout kills over nearly two thirds of the total population of the Tees valley area. Many of those who survive take shelter in underground anhydrite, coal and potash mines located around the area. Among the notable survivors is Princess Anne (only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II) who was opening a disabled riding school outside Middlesbrough at the time of the attack, traveling with her at the time of the attack was her two year old daughter Zara.
Survivors stayed underground as long as possible with scavenging parties collection food and water from the surface and returning it to the mines for the rest of the survivors.
Due to the failure of the electricity grids the mines begin to flood by January 1984 and the had to be abandoned.
History of Cleveland - Post Doomsday
Upon the abandonment of the mines in early 1984 the Cleveland police force encorporated all surviving territorial army personnel into the new armed police units. These militant units initiate marshall law in Cleveland in mid 1984. Marshall law lasted until 1991 when a parliment of local representatives was established, based in the town hall of Middlesbrough, elections were scheduled for 1995.
In May the temporary government announces several decrees:
- All non or low radiated parklands, gardens, and open spaces are to be turned over to agriculture. It has been asertained by the local allotment associations the a patch of land 10 feet by 10 feet can feed a family of five when planted properly.
- The irradiated area around the coast of the former town of Hartlepool will be left to return to the wild, any remaining survivors will be evacuated to the small towns south of Middlesbrough.
- Every person in Cleveland, who are healthy and between the ages of 18 and 40 shall serve a minimum of 6 months in the armed services.
The first elections take part in the Tees Valley, there are 20 MP's. The new government is Royalist with the Prime Minster being named as former Cleveland Police Officer Ray Mallon. Princess Anne become a the constitutional monarch Queen Anne II. Under proposals by the new government the name of the area reverted to its ancient name of Cleveland and become a constitutional parlimentary Kingdom, Middlesbrough is named as the captial. Its new motto is incorporated as 'nos vadum orior oriri ortus iterum', Latin for 'We shall rise again'.
The total population of the Kingdom of Cleveland stands as 104,271. With over 735,000 deaths from the coastal tsunami, radioactivity, starvation, social unrest, disease and general accidents.
In 1996 the unradiated parts of the former counties of North Yorkshire and Durham become part of the Kingdom of Cleveland.
In 1999 many of the coal mines in Durham are reopened by royal decree, these start producing coal in early 2000 and by 2002 are producing 50,000 tonnes of coal per year.
Prime Minster Mallon's Royalist party wins second election with 8 seats, however with a reduced majority, the Labour party becomes the opposition party with Tony Blair as it's leader with 5 seats, the Conservative party come third with 2 seats.
5th May 2004 - NRCO towns of Dunforth, Ouseburn, Flaxby, Knaresborough, Wetherby and Tadcaster vote to become part of the Kingdom of Cleveland adding 19,458 to the population of the Kingdom.
12th May 2004 - all NRCO towns in the former county of North Yorkshire join the Kingdom of Cleveland, adding 5,623 to the population of the Kingdom of Cleveland.
22nd May 2004 - the final NRCO towns of Appleby, Kirby Stephen and Hawes voted to join the Kingdom of Cleveland, adding another 2,789 to the population of the Kingdom of Cleveland
1st June 2004 - 15 new MP's join the Cleveland parliment from the former NRCO territories.
With the addition of the former NRCO towns in 2004, the population of the Kingdom of Cleveland is 198,274. Deaths due to cancer and birth malformations caused by the radioactivity are beginning to reduce dramitically over the past 5 years.
Health secratary James Shanley declares that the overall health of the people of Cleveland is actually higher now than it was at the beginning of 1983 due to the changes in general diet and alcohol intake levels and mainly due to the fact that the amount of smokers in the country is now practically zero.
Prime Minster Mallon's Royalist party wins third election with a large majority of 22 seats, the Labour party is second with 6 seats and the Conservative Party on 4 seats, there are 3 independants.
17th January a referendum is held to decide the name for the country once the Kingdoms of Cleveland and Northumbria unite.
there are several possiblities they are as follows with votes cast:
- Kingdom of Albion - 72,047
- New United Kingdoms - 14,873
- New Brittania - 3,497
- Greater Cleveland - 3,267
- Greater Northumbria - 2,564
- all others - 1,203.
14th May 2010
PM Mallon announces that the Kingdom of Cleveland expanding to include any remaining settlements in the non-irradiated sections of the former counties of North and West Yorkshire as far south as the former M62 (which is the southern boundry of the country). Teams will be sent into these area to give out supplies, long wave radios and small wind turbines to any settlements that require them. Trade routes will be set up with the colony of East Britain in the former East Riding of Yorkshire based in Hull as well as any survivior colonies in the former county of South Yorkshire.
The election date of June 2nd has been announced, this will be after the vote on the 21st May for possible inclusion in the Celtic Alliance.
New laws were brought into effect after the elections in 1995, the death penalty was reintroduced in Cleveland for murder, paedophillia, rape, treason and armed theft. The method of death was introduced as long drop hanging.
Life term prison sentences were increased from the average pre-DD UK term of 15-20 years to life being 99 years.
Hard labour for prison inmates in introduced in 2000, hard labour consist of road building, laying of railway lines, land clearing, mining, and demolition works.
In 2005 the death penalty was recinded for rape and armed theft, the sentence will now be life in prison with hard labour.
In 2007 the death penalty for paedophilia is recinded with the sentance now chemical castration followed by life with hard labour.
In 2004 new laws were introduced, for minor law breaking such as mugging, burglary, general theft, assault, drunk and disorderly and general public disorder the punishment was between 12 and 48 hours in stocks (in 6 hour stints)
The stocks set up on the main shopping street of Linthorpe Road outside the former parliment building in Middlesbrough. The stocks are set up so that the prisioner is seated on a wooden bench (they can pay extra, about five pounds, for a cushion - money goes to local orphanage) and his or her feet are secured at the ankles. Above the stocks are a small roof (mainly to keep the rain off the prisioner) and from the roof hangs a banner showing the name and crime of the person in the stocks.
In total there are four stocks and only once have they all been filled at the same time, this was in 2002 after Middlesbrough FC had beaten Darlington FC 6-0 and all four people in the stocks had been arrested for drunk and disorderly offences.
On 22nd December 1996 a governmental decree states that the age for marriage in the Kingdom of Cleveland has, firstly, been raised from 16 (with parental permission) to 18, this is mainly due to the number of children who had lost parents before the age of 16, and that secondly, that marriage by law was between two adults (with no mention of sex of the adults)
League of Nations Membership
2nd October 2009 - Queen Anne II and Prime Minster Mallon of the Kingdom of Cleveland as well as King George I of Northumbria send a message to the Tongan King Taufa’ahau Tupou IV Secretary General of the League of Nations (1983: Doomsday) asking for admitance as a joint country due to their future unification after the accession of Crown Princess Zara of Cleveland and Crown Prince George of Nortumbria.
Before DD the general climate of Cleveland was relativly mild with an average summer temperature of 19 Celsius with heatwaves of 30 Celsius, and average winter temperature of 5 Celsius with some cold snaps of minus 5 Celsius. Snow fall was rare with only 2 to 4 inches on average per year.
After DD it took several years for the new global climate to settle in. In the last 10 years the average summer temperature has risen slightly to 25 Celsius with heatwaves above 40 Celsius. During winter however the temperature now drops to an average of minus 10 Celsius and cold snaps below minus 25 Celsius. Snowfall now averages 2 to 3 feet per year.

In 2004 Queen Anne II and Prince Consort James adopt three children, Prince Martin aged 8, Prince Jordan aged 5 and Princess Michala aged 3. All three adopted children are in line to the throne, and if Crown Princess Zara dies before producing heirs then the Throne of Cleveland will pass to Prince Martin.

On the 5th August 2008 it is announced that Crown Princess Zara of Cleveland is engaged the Crown Prince of Northumbria, George Dominic Percy.
The wedding date was set for 4th November 2009. Princess Michala was a flower girl, Prince Jordan was a page boy, Prince Max Percy (Crown Prince George's younger brother) was best man.
The wedding took place at Richmond Castle.
This wedding and any children issuing from the marriage will unite the Kingdoms of Northumbria and Cleveland. it has been announced that the primogenator rule (male children having right of rule over older female siblings) has been abolished and the eldest child (no matter what sex) will rule both the kingdom of Northumbria and Cleveland.

Upon the accession of the first child of Zara and George to both thrones, the kingdoms will become the Kingdom of Albion.
The name of Albion was chosen as it is the name that was originally given to the former British Isles. Pliny the Elder, in his Natural History says "It was itself named Albion, while all the islands about which we shall soon briefly speak were called the Britanniae."
On New Years Day 2010 it was announced from the Royal Palace at Wynyard that the Crown Princess Zara and her husband Crown Prince George are expecting their first child, it is expected to be born mid August.

Queen Anne II accident
17th April 2010 at roughly 1pm, Queen Anne II suffers a fall from her horse whilst riding in the Eston Hills.
Originally transfered to South Tees General Hospital in Middlesbrough it is asertaind that she has suffered a major head injury and has bleeding on the brain, this is beyond the medical capibilities of the Cleveland Hospital service.
A radio call is placed to the Celtic Alliance asking for assistance. They decide to send an air ambulance helicopter to recover the Queen and take her to St James's hospital in Dublin which is a more advanced hospital.
The helicopter arrives at 8pm and takes off at 8.15pm heading west.
At 9.45pm the helicopter sends out a mayday call saying it is having engine difficulties and is having to make an emergency landing. After that mayday call all contact with the air ambulance helicopter is lost.
In the early morning of the 18th April radio contact from the Rheged Co-opertive in Keswick, they describe a burning fellside to the east of the town, moutain rescue teams head to the area and arrive just after dawn on the 18th they find the air ambulance crash site, amazingly there are survivors, the co-pilot, main paramedic and Queen Anne II have survived the crash however the queen is in serious condition.
All survivors are evacuated to Keswick. Once in Keswick the Queens health begins to deteriate quickly, local historian John McDowell gives a possible idea to the local doctor, Trepanation. Seeing that this is the only option a temporary operating theatre is set up in the Moot Hall in the centre of the town. The operation begins at 12.30pm on the 18th April, it takes 2 hours to do the operation which is decided it has been a limited success and by 6pm the Queen is showing signs of regaining conciousness.
By the morning of the 19th April Queen Anne II has regained conciousness however it is obvious that some damage has occured to the Queens brain as she is paralised down her left side and is having major problems with her short term memory retention.
It is decided to evacuate the Queen to St James's hospital in Dublin she was originally heading for, Queen Anne II is loaded onto another air ambulance helicopter on the 20th of April. It lands in Dublin at 3pm.
Scans of the Queen brain on the morning of the 21st show that the bleed has stopped, and the trepanation saved her life, however the delay in treatment has caused some permenant brain damage.
Prime Minster Ray Mallon arrives at her bedside on the night of the 21st along with Crown Princess Zara and Queen Annes Husband Prince James.
After discussions between the Queen, Prime Minster and Crown Princess it is decided to transfer the Queens responsiblities to the Crown Princess until a point where they can be transfered back or kept permenantly by the Crown Princess. This is announced in the Kingdom of Cleveland at 5pm on the 22nd April. From the 23rd April Crown Princess Zara becomes the Crown Regent Zara.
An investigation by a joint Celtic Alliance/Cleveland task force discovers that a volcano in southern Iceland has erupted and the crash was caused by the engine of the helicopter becoming clogged with glass formed from ash taken in and melted on the engine parts.

Since DD Cleveland has been seperated from the rest of the world, as such the Teesside dialect has evolved into a seperate version of English known locally as Cleveish.
Many influences from local ethnic minorities such as Hindu, Urdu, Chinese, Bangladshi, and Arabic. An example of this new language is below(with translation):
Cleveish "Whodder y'men like y'canna't understan yan? There aint nowt wrong with 'ow thee talk. Youse lot just 'aven't been 'ere long enough, another few months and y'll be yakking like the rest of yan!"
Translation - "what do you mean you cannot understand me? there is nothing wrong with how we talk. you lot haven't been here long enough, another few months and you will all talking like the rest of us!"
There are several coal electric power stations working throughout the Kingdom
In early 2002 it is discovered that Hartlepool Nuclear power station has started to become dangerous and it decided that it should be shut down and replaced by 2006. Prime minster Mallon makes an executive order that the power station shall be replaced with a small coal powered station in Durham near the new coal mines and a waste to energy plant (by burning rubbish) on the outskirts of Middlesbrough as well as numerous wind turbines on the local Pennine, Eston and Cleveland hills as well as hydroelectic plants on rivers across the kingdom.
On 23rd July 2006 Prime minster Mallon announces that renewable power generators (wind and hydro-electric) will be built across the former NRCO territories, these will begin generating power by early October 2009 and the NRCO will be 90% powered by mid 2010.
In 2000 a new coal gas plant is set up in the former county Durham using coal from existing and reopened coal mines in the area.
This gas is piped along the former natural gas pipelines into many homes and businesses in Cleveland.
2010 FIFA World Cup
2009 the CFA announces that there will be a national team formed for the FIFA World cup to be played in the Celtic Alliance in 2010. Players can be selected from any team in all three leagues.
Team Cleveland manager has been named as Sir Brian Clough current manager of Middlesbrough FC.
The draw took place in Dublin on December 4th.

Discovery by the Celtic Alliance
In 1997 during a fishing trip from off the east coast of Yorkshire a small Scottish trawler comes across a cobble (small open fishing boat) longline fishing.
The two crews make contact and after visiting the mainland they return to Scotland, setting up trade routes between the Kingdom of Cleveland and the Celtic Alliance.
The Tees valley had been powered by Hartlepool Nuclear power station (which had only been operational since early 1983) however this plant was closed down in 2007 and replaced by a small waste to energy plant and a coal powered plant.
There is a large iron and steel works (which has been mothballed since DD attacks in 1983) and there are several shipyards producing mid sized wooden vessels used for trading up and down the east coast and smaller fishing vessels, the small towns in unaffected areas of Yorkshire have begun farming both arable and livestock as well as fishing from the small ports such as Whitby and Ravenscar.
The Queen Anne International airport (former Teesside international) has been adapted for use as a medical staging points however PM Mallon refuses to allow an end cycle center as he believes that every life is important.
1995 census - the total population of the Kingdom of Cleveland stands as 104,271. With over 735,000 deaths from the coastal tsunami, radioactivity, starvation, social unrest, disease and general accidents.
2005 census - with the addition of the former NRCO towns in 2004, the population of the Kingdom of Cleveland is estimated to be 198,000.
The Kingdom of Cleveland is due to vote on a referendum on becoming part of the Celtic Alliance in mid 2010. However popular opinion is that the Kingdom of Cleveland will remain independent.
The date for the referendum on joining the Celtic Alliance has been announced. On May 21st 2010 the vote will take place, the results will be announced on the 28th May 2010.
The Kingdom of Cleveland is a member of the League of Nations.
Trade routes have been set up with Rheghed, East Britain, Woodbridge, Celtic Alliance, Kingdom of Northumbria and Essex
