The "Era of American Peace" Speech was a speech given by the then-Governor of New Jersey Charles Edison to 1948 Democratic Convention In Atlantic City, New Jersey accepting the Democratic Nomination for President in the 1948 Presidential Election. In the speech Edison emphasized the Democratic Party as the party of American values and decried both the spread of Communism abroad and ongoing domestic unrest. His speech is often accredited as the speech which would solidify the Conservative hold over the Democratic Party and the rise of the New Right within the Democratic Party.
