"Is mó Dia é !!" (Irish: "Great is God !!") Is the national anthem of the Gaelic Christian Republic of Ireland, it is based off the former Libya national anthem and the Egyptian.

History

Egyptian origins

"Allahu Akbar" was originally an Egyptian military marching song which became popular in Egypt and Syria during the Suez Canal War of 1956. The lyrics were written by Mahmoud El-Sherif, and the music was composed by Abdalla Shams El-Din.

Use in Libya

"Allahu Akbar" was adopted as the official national anthem of the Libyan Arab Republic on 1 September 1969, by Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, showing his hopes of uniting the Arab world. "Allahu Akbar" replaced the previous national anthem "Libya, Libya, Libya", which had been used by the Kingdom of Libya since its independence in 1951.

When the Libyan Arab Republic became the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya on 2 March 1977, "Allahu Akbar" remained the national anthem of Libya. However, when Libya and Egypt broke off diplomatic relations following the latter's peace treaty with the State of Israel in 1979, the Egyptian origins of the national anthem were no longer mentioned by official government sources.

When the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya was dissolved on 20 October 2011, following the Libyan Civil War and the death of Muammar Gaddafi, "Libya, Libya, Libya" was once again adopted as the new national anthem of Libya, by the National Transitional Council. Gaddafi loyalists continued to use the anthem.

Use in N.Ireland

"Is mó Dia é !!" was officially adopted in August,2019 as the official anthem original it was to show support to Muammar Gaddafi son and Gaddafi loyalists. Jordan Powell, then declared during the first annual "National Commune Day",speech, that "Is mó Dia é !!" will be the official anthem and both the song and the instrumental version was used alongside the Gaelic Social Army of Ireland's anthem "Arm Chríost, agus an Phobail" (English: "The Army of Christ, and the the People"). It was tweaked slightly to included traditional Irish instruments such as Bagpipes, and Acoustic guitars which gives it a folk style and feel while keeping the original feel of the song.

English translation

Dia is mó! Dia is mó!

Agus is mó Dia os cionn ceapacha na n-ionsaitheoirí,

Agus is é Dia an cúntóir is fearr do na daoine faoi bhrú.

Cosnóidh mé mo thír le creideamh agus le hairm

Agus lonróidh solas na fírinne i mo lámh.

Abair liom! Abair liom!

Dia, a Dhia, is é Dia is mó!

Tá Dia os cionn aon ionsaitheoir!

God is the greatest! God is the greatest!

And God is greatest above plots of the aggressors,

And God is the best helper of the oppressed.

With faith and with weapons I shall defend my country

And the light of truth will shine in my hand.

Say with me! Say with me!

God, God, God is the greatest!

God is above any attacker!

Ó an saol seo, féach agus éist:

Tháinig an namhaid ag cuimilt mo bháis,

Troidfidh mé leis an bhFírinne agus leis na cosaintí

Agus má fhaighim bás, tógfaidh mé liom é!

Abair liom é, abair liom é:

Dia, a Dhia, is é Dia is mó!

Tá Dia os cionn aon ionsaitheoir!

Oh this world, watch and listen:

The enemy came coveting my demise,

I shall fight with Truth and defences

And if I die, I'll take him with me!

Say it with me, say it with me:

God, God, God is the greatest!

God is above any attacker!

Dia is mó! Dia is mó!

Abair liom, mairg don choilíneoir

Agus tá Dia os cionn an egotist ionróirí,

Is é Dia an duine is mó, deir mo thír liom:

Agus féuch naimhde forelock agus scrios é

Abair liom é, abair liom é:

Dia, a Dhia, is é Dia is Mó!

Tá Dia os cionn aon ionsaitheoir!

God is the greatest! God is the greatest!

Say with me, woe to the colonialist

And God is over the invader egotist,

God is the greatest, my country say with me:

And behold of enemies forelock and destroy it

Say it with me, say it with me:

God, God, God is the Greatest!

God is above any attacker!
