The 1753 Russian America coup attempt was a coup by 100 Russians who weren't satisfied with current government. These Russians were able to recruit over 1300 natives to help them with this coup. This coup only lasted a little over two weeks and they hit the Russian American Economy hard. When Rafikov Gained control again he immediately declared martial law that would last until December 11th the same year.

Background

When Chadov Josef Valeryevich died there was a power vacuum to fill his place. He was considered one of the best leaders a country could possibly have. His successor named Rafikov was a very radical right politician implementing very right policies. By some he was considered the first Hitler. After Chadov's Death in 1743 a group of Russians got together to discuss the situation of the county. They came to the conclusion that the new Governor named Rafikov Osip was a radical-right politician. For a decade these Russians would recruit natives and plan for a coup takeover of the government. This coup was very in depth as in they wanted to sabotage the economy and ultimately break away from Russia. During this time the 1st Native Division was made in 1743. Later in 1745 the Russian Defector Militia was made.

Storming Of The Duma Building

On October 23rd, 1753, a group of Russians and natives stormed the Regional Duma Building. During this assault only two guards were killed in the storming. The Duma was held hostage and any Natives in the House of Representatives were told to go home. Word soon spread from town to town. When the word spread to Rafikov he immediately mobilized 1150 of his men. The capital, Anchorage, was put under lock down where information only got in and out from one road. Marka sent orders to any Russians to help with a revolution saying Rafikov died and that the revolution starts here.

The Native-Russo Provisional Government was a short lived country where a group of Russian Rebels stormed the parliament building or Duma Building for short in 1753. The "Speaker of the House" and "Commander-in-Chief" was a man named Marka Tkhonovich. Marka ruled with normal powers as a president would have. This provisional government had a legislative and executive branch. A judicial branch was coming after the government gained control over Alaska. There were few ranks to the government's military but there were Captains, Colonels and Generals. There were going to be elections every five years but they never happened. The legislative body had most of the power. Not too much is known about who was in the original Legislative body but many say they fled or were sentenced to death.

Russian Cannons Preparing to attack Anchorage

On October 25th, Rafikov set his troops outside Anchorage intending to lay siege for days. At 2:00 in the morning all cannons were set and troops were in position. He was told the other 850 men will come in the next three days. When the Cavalry was set he told them to do a Cavalry charge which was common at the time. The charge dealt minimal damage to the fortifications. At 2:30 he told his cannons to lay siege on the town which will last for ten hours. In this time many buildings of the town were destroyed. During this time the Duma building remained relatively unharmed.

October 27th, 1753

Two days later the affects of starving the town starts to take a toll. After the coup the Russians interrogated some of the people involved and they said starving the town took a large toll and played a large part in retaking the capital. The Russians started their advance at noon on this day. The Russians took all of their casualties during this advance. The total killed in this advance was 21.

November 1st, 1753

A couple days later after gritty battles in the roads the commander of the Russian forces Rafikov called for another advance with no cavalry involved. The tacit was to bombard the city with cannons while avoiding Russian troops at the same time. During the bombarding the 13th Russian Infantry Division would fight in the streets. Also during this day the Native-Russo Provisional Government called for their first of two meetings here they discussed what they will do in the event of the city being taken. They concluded to sent out ten Russians to carry on the word and hopefully gather more native support. They were all wounded in a cannon shot and were wiling to give up strategic positions of the Rebels in return for free passage home to families. In the end no more native support came.

November 5th, 1753 (The Battle For Northern Lights Road)

On November 5th, 1753, the Russians advance to the road named Northern Lights Boulevard which leads to the Duma building. At about noon Russian troops fired at natives. This would be one of the last confrontations between the Russians and natives there. When the Russians fired at the Natives they fought back hard. The estimate for the death toll is somewhere between 150 and 500. During this time a number of Provisional government members died due to starvation. The Battle at Northern Lights went on all day. By 10:30 the battle ended. In May, Natives voted to surrender.

November 7th, 1753

On November 7th, the Provisional Government Legislature met for the second and final time. This meeting the legislature would end in a fight between those who wanted to surrender and those who wanted to continue fighting. One-half of the Legislature left the building to only be caught 17 minutes later by some Russians. Most of these people were to be sentenced to death and others were to be sentenced to 25 years in prison.

November 10-11th, 1753 (Retaking The Duma Building)

At 3:00 in the afternoon on November 10th, 1753, the first Russians to enter the Duma Building for the first time in two weeks enter. About one hour later the battle for the cross way commences where the 13th Infantry fought the Russian Defectors Militia. The Defectors fought for four hours against the Russians. At 10:00 the Defectors voted to surrender. They all were sent to prison for 30 years. For two hours the Russians found their way around the town and buildings taking anyone who surrendered. At 12:37 in the morning the Native-Russian Provisional Government capitulated.

In the aftermath Governor Rafikov put the country under martial law for about a month. Also, most of the natives captured were sentenced to death. Most of the high ranking officials of the Native-Russo Provisional Government were sentenced to death by firing squad. Marka Tikhonovich was sentenced to death by hanging in the capital of the Russian Empire, St. Petersburg. Most of Anchorage was destroyed. The Duma building had to go through renovations. Most of the town had to undergo a 50 million Ruble rebuild that wouldn't start until February 6th, 1754, and the last renovations wouldn't be finished until August 17th, 1754. Marka Trikhonvich was hanged on April 14th, 1754 for treason against the empire.
