This is a list of events that take place during this timeline.

1948

  • 21st February - Communist takeover in Czechoslovakia.
  • 17th March - Brussels Pact is formed.
  • 7th July - Yugoslavia sends a list of demands to Hungary and Czechoslovakia.
  • 21st August - Ambassadors of France, the United Kingdom, the United States and the Soviet Union agree to non-aggression between the powers, particularly involving the Balkans. The Soviet Union also agrees to not forcefully attack Hungary.
  • September - Autonomy is given to the Yugoslav states.
  • October - Ratification of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) comprising of the Western countries, as well as the United States and Canada.
  • Border disputes in Northern Ireland and Ireland itself increase.

1949

  • 18th January - The Communist Party of China and the Republic of China agree to a ceasefire.
  • February - East and West Germany is established.
  • March - The Balkan Meeting between Representatives of France, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Soviet Union, Hungary, Romania, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia begin. The countries agree on a stalemate in conflicts. Hungary is to withdraw all claims from Transylvania and Yugoslavia is to give more autonomy to Croatia, establishing the Socialist Federal Republic of Croatia.
  • April - The Balkan Revolution. Begins in Hungary with a riot against the Communist regime, followed by an independence movement in Transylvania and Croatia. All governing forces attempt to quell the uprisings. The Soviet Union supports the Communist regimes while NATO doesn't get involved.
  • 3rd May - Tensions on the Northern Ireland border come to a minimal.
  • May - During the uprisings, Yugoslavia gives an ultimatum to Hungary and Romania. Both refuse, forcing Yugoslavia to declare war on the countries, thus beginning what would become World War III. The Hungarian Army advances as far as Bosnia but isn't able to go past any further.
  • June - Occupation of Hungary, establishing a provisional government.
  • 1949 US Election: Harry S Truman is re-elected.

1950

  • January - The Soviet Union forces Austria to be run with a Socialist government. This poses a threat to NATO, but due to non-aggression, they decided not to declare war.
  • March - The first election in the Republic of China is held. Chiang Kai-Shek wins by a landslide.
  • November - Troops from NATO attempt to quell the war, but not much progress succeeds, and the War of the Balkans continues.

1951

  • June - Establishment of the Balkan Federal Union, an alliance between the Balkan nations.
  • September - Delegates from the Balkan countries agree that the Union will officially come into place after the war ends.
  • November - Approval of the Balkan Federal Union.

1952

  • January - After much negotiation, the United States decides to enter the war.
  • 1953 US Election: Dwight D. Eisenhower is elected.

  • May - Joseph Stalin dies, and is replaced by Georgy Malenkov.

1954

  • January - Puerto Rico declares independence with permission from the United States.
  • February - The South American Alliance is established between Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Brazil.
  • May - Treaty of May. World War III ends.
  • June - Proclamation of the Balkan Federal Union.
  • June - Yugoslavia dissolves and the states all become independent democracies.
  • August - The Communist Bloc (besides Poland and the Soviet Union) transform to democracies.
  • August - Treaty of Hapsburg, establishing a Republic of Austria.
