1948 United States Presidential Election (Sino-German Unity)
Orange=Thurmond, Green-Wallace, Red=Dewey, Purple=Smallwood, Blue=Caldwell

After the allied loss in the Second World War. The Democratic Party under Truman truly collapsed into two new parties, The Progressive Party and The Dixiecrats with all other supporters fleeing to the Republicans.

This was the first election in which the new states of Greenland and Newfoundland participated. Greenland leaned Republican while Newfoundland was more Liberal. In Newfoundland many were unhappy with statehood as there were still active independence and pro Canadian Confederation groups.

The Republican Party nominated Thomas Dewey, their previous candidate and governor of New York while The Dixiecrats nominated Strom Thurmond the incumbent Governor of South Carolina. Progressives nominated former Vice President to FDR, Henry Wallace after the idea to run a joint candidate with The Republican Party was shut down.

Polling indicated a strong Republican lead in the northeast, Progressives faired well in the pacific states while Dixiecrats dominated the south.
