The United States Presidential Election of 1984 was the 50th quadrennial presidential election for United States president. It was held on November 6, 1984, and was contested between incumbent President Walter Mondale, and US governor from California, Ronald Reagan
During Mondale's presidency, the debt grew, social problems got worse, and taxes got raised by a sizable margin, making his popularity plummet. However, he had a successful foreign policy, by making new nuclear agreements from Soviet Union and remaining a good relationship with China. Mondale's successful foreign policy was not enough to get him re-elected, Ronald Reagan defeated him by a slim margin of 271-267.
