The 1988 United States presidential election was the 51st quadrennial presidential election. It was held on Tuesday, November 8, 1988. The Citizens First Party ticket of former New Saxony Governor Koenraad Saemonsaburo and Tennessee politician Al Gore defeated the National Labor Party ticket of former Arizona governor Gloria van der Rivier and former University of Nevada professor Samuel Webb. The 1988 election was the first election in which the Citizens First Party gained prominence in United States politics.
