The 1990 FIFA World Cup was the 13th FIFA World Cup, a quadrennial international football tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It took place in Brazil.

The final tournament involved 16 national teams, including 15 teams determined through qualifying competitions and the automatically qualified host team.

It was, and still is to this day, the most attended World Cup tournament in history, with the final in Rio de Janeiro attracting a record 145,000 fans.
