The 2000 US presidential election was the 54th presidential election, held on Nov 7 2000. The Republican ticket of Chuck Roberts and Rachel Perkins defeated the Democratic ticket of Dale Simmons and Robert Harrison.

Incumbent Marco LeSpencer was term limited and didn't seek a third term. Dale Simmons became the Democratic nominee and choose Missouri governor Robert Harrison as his running mate, while Chuck Roberts was the frontrunner for the Republican nomination and choose Illinois governor Rachel Perkins.

Both candidates campaigned around corruption,as Marco LeSpencer's presidency was considered corrupt by many Republicans. Roberts tied his middle class status and attracted low and middle class voters,Southerners, and even African Americans, while Simmons had numerous gaffes and was tied to the corruption of LeSpencer.

In the end,Chuck Roberts won, winning 476 electoral votes and 61.2% of the popular vote compared to Simmons 62 electoral votes and just 37.9% of the popular vote. This was the 1st election since 1972 in which Texas,Arkansas,Misssppsi, and Hawaii voted Republican(Hawaii would later trend Republican as a result.),the 1st time Washington DC voted Republican, and the 1st time also since the 1972 election that a majority of African Americans voted Republican, which also happened in the 2004 and 2008 elections, but since then African Americans are spilt between the Democrats and Republicans.
