Welcome to the Portal Page for 2001: A New World.
2001: A New World is an alternate history originally created by Guminator2 (and now handled by users NBranden1 and Guminator1A). It takes place in an parallel universe in which most of notable events are strikingly similar to those in OTL, but with occasional differences. Also known affectionately as the Schwarz Millennial Universe, this has Six major divergent points, and only a handful of minor ones.
The 2001: A New World timeline is open to any and all who want to join in. As this is also a collaborative timeline, being produced by a single contributor at the moment.
Introduction[]
Although there are multiple divergent points, the most notable Point of Divergence of the 2001: A New World timeline is January 1, 2000, on which many things went into effect such as aircraft security being rejuvenated due to concerns over potential plane hijackings.
List of Divergent Points[]
Here is a compilation of the major divergent points. Two happened in the early-mid 20th century and another four occurred in the late 20th to early 21st century:
- July 12, 1915 - A sinking of a vessel; Purportedly being the fifth of the White Star Line's Olympic class of steamships. This fifth vessel was actually known as the Romantic and was designed in a similar manner to the olympic class; albiet as a lead ship of the White Star Line's duo of Romantic-class ocean liners. It was torpedoed by an Imperial German Navy U-boat during the First World War, about 40 miles (64 km) off the coast of Nantes, France. This is the first major point of divergence.
- September 20, 1943 - The Balkans withdraw from World War II. Italy no longer is hostile.
- Februrary 13, 1981 - An armed conflict began with a full-scale invasion of Iraq by the Soviet Union.
- January 1, 2000 - Several changes different than those in the OTL happen on this date. Most notable is all of the nations around the world adjust legislative properties in preparation for the new millenium. This is an important point of divergence.
- October 7, 2001 - Despite the World Trade Center not being directly attacked on 9/11, a War in Afghanistan still occurred for the same reason. This Point of Divergence is what this ATL is loosely named after.
- December 18, 2021 - A sucessful cure for COVID-19 based on extensive research of coronaviruses is finally developed by an unknown United States-based scientific research corporation to especially combat against all variants. This is the sixth major point of divergence.
