The 2014 FIFA World Cup was held between 12 June and 13 July in Brazil. Uruguay won the tournament and took its third title, its first after the events of Doomsday.
Host selection[]
During the FIFA World Congress held from December 2 to December 4, 2010 in Dublin, Celtic Alliance, there were three host bids placed for the 2014 World Cup; namely, from Brazil, the ANZC and Siberia.
The winning bid was announced during the congress, with Brazil receiving 15 votes, ANZC receiving nine votes, and Siberia receiving no votes. Before the voting process had even begun, Brazil were considered heavy favorites for the contest due to the number and quality of venues currently existing in the country.
Participating teams[]
Qualification[]
During the FIFA World Congress in Dublin, the federation also voted upon the expansion of the tournament from the current 16 teams to 24 teams, in order to produce more equal representation of countries throughout the world in the tournament.
