The 2014 FIFA World Cup was held between 12 June and 13 July in Brazil. Uruguay won the tournament and took its third title, its first after the events of Doomsday.

Host selection[]

During the FIFA World Congress held from December 2 to December 4, 2010 in Dublin, Celtic Alliance, there were three host bids placed for the 2014 World Cup; namely, from Brazil, the ANZC and Siberia.

The winning bid was announced during the congress, with Brazil receiving 15 votes, ANZC receiving nine votes, and Siberia receiving no votes. Before the voting process had even begun, Brazil were considered heavy favorites for the contest due to the number and quality of venues currently existing in the country.

Participating teams[]

Qualification[]

During the FIFA World Congress in Dublin, the federation also voted upon the expansion of the tournament from the current 16 teams to 24 teams, in order to produce more equal representation of countries throughout the world in the tournament.

Following qualification matches between June 2011 to November 2013, the following 24 teams--shown in their respective regional confederations--qualified for the final tournament. 12 of the 24 teams to qualify were returning participants from the 2010 World Cup. Ambazonia, Costa Rica, and Serbia were the three teams in this tournament with no previous World Cup experience.

Final draw[]

The 24 qualifying teams were drawn into six (6) groups of four (4) teams each, with the first and second-place teams in the groups advancing to he knockout stage, along with four third-place teams with the best records in their groups.

Brazil as hosts were immediately drawn into Group A, where they were joined by Mexico, Ambazonia and Serbia.

Defending World Cup champions ANZC were drawn into Group B, along with Chile, USSR and the Celtic Alliance. This will mark the first time that the two finalists of the previous World Cup will be facing off against each other in the group stage.

The Alpine Confederation, currently ranked third in the FIFA World Rankings, was drawn into Group C with the East Caribbean Federation, Greece and newcomers Korean Union.

Uruguay, ranked fifth in the FIFA World Rankings, was drawn into Group D with Sicily, Cleveland and Costa Rica.

Group E was composed of Sweden, Colombia, Honduras and Ivory Coast (Côte d'Ivoire).

Prussia, Iran, the Azanian League and Ghana were drawn into Group F.

Brazil and Serbia will play the opening match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup on June 12 in São Paulo. Group play will continue up to June 25. The round of 16 is scheduled from June 28 to July 1. The quarterfinals will be played on July 4 and 5; the semifinals will be played on July 8 and 9; the third place match on July 12 in Brasilia and the final on July 13 in the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
