A motion of no confidence in the Indochinese federal cabinet was tabled in the Chamber of Deputies and successfully passed on 11 June 2014, leading to the collapse of the Nationalist Party (NPI)-led government of Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng. The motion put an end to five months of political crisis following a series of embezzlement scandals and economic mismanagement under PM Dũng.

Indochinese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung of the Nationalist Party failed a vote of confidence on June 11, 2014

Despite holding a majority of 424 seats in the 780-member Chamber of Deputies, the ruling NPI failed to whip its rebellious members to vote along party line and support the government. Growing discontent with corruption scandals under PM Dũng and his refusal to resign led to 40 MPs from the NPI joining the opposition led by the WPI and other minor parties and independent MPs in voting against the NPI-led government. Parliament was dissolved the same day to prepare for the snap election in July 2014.

Following the collapse of the Dũng ministry, President Norodom Ranariddh appointed Nguyễn Xuân Phúc of the rival Workers' Party (WPI) to serve as caretaker prime minister until the 2014 snap election the same year, which resulted in a landslide for the WPI against the incumbent NPI. This put an end to 12 years of rule by the NPI, which had been in government since their landslide victory in the 2002 election.
