The 2014 Pennsylvania gubernatorial election was held on November 4, 2014, to elect the Governor and Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania, concurrently with elections to the United States Senate in Pennsylvania and other states and elections to the United States House of Representatives and various state and local elections.
Incumbent republican Governor Tom Walker ran for re-election in 2014. And ran unopposed in the republican primary. Democrats nominated former United States Secretary of defense Michael Bates. Bates won the race, defeating Walker in the November general election.
In primary elections for lieutenant governor, which were held separately, incumbent Jim Bartholomew was renominated without opposition in the Republican primary. Businessman and state senator Bill Gibson emerged as the democratic nominee. As lieutenant gubernatorial nominees run on a joint ticket with the gubernatorial nominee of their respective parties in the general election in Pennsylvania, Gibson was elected lieutenant governor over Bartholomew.
