The 2016 FISA World Cup was held in Brazil in June and July 2016. It was the first time since 1944 that the World Cup was hosted in Brazil. The opening match was held in Sao Paolo and the closing match was held in the Maracanã, where Chile defeated Italy to win their first World Cup title since 1960 and their fourth overall, matching Ireland's count of titles. Chile's Alexis Sanchez and Claudio Bravo would win Golden Ball and Golden Glove, respectively, while Colombia's James Rodriguez had seven goals in leading Colombia to a bronze medal. Much like 2004, CONAM teams dominated in Argentina, with all nine participating teams from the confederation advancing out of the group stage. It was the first World Cup held after the European Spring.
