2016 Pennsylvania Proposition 1,officially A Measure to Expand Charter Schools in Pennsylvania,was a ballot proposition that expanded charter schools in the state of Pennsylvania. It was approved overwhelmingly by 65.3% to 34.7%.

Campaign[]

Over 2 billion dollars were spent campaign for the ballot. Most funding was done by supporters of the ballot.

Support for a yes vote[]

Supporters of a yes vote argued that every county should receive quality charter schools like the ones in Philadelphia. Both major presidential nominees and major political parties supported a yes vote. The support for a yes vote domainted advertising.

Support for a no vote[]

Supporters of a no vote argued that charter schools prevent traditional public schools from improving. 3 county Democratic affiliates supported a no vote. While advertising was done,very little ads made ground with voters.

Results[]

The ballot measure was approved by a large margin,with 65.3% voting yes and 34.7% voting no. Only three counties voted no for the measure;Elk,Lackawanna,and Luzerne. Every other county voted yes for the measure. Since 2017(the current date in ATL is Jan 17 2017),over 600 charter schools opened.
