The 2019 Philippine House of Representatives elections were held on May 13, 2019, with 67,597,461 registered voters to elect members to the House of Representatives.
Candidates were expected to be either for or against the Prime Minister Lord Allan Velasco. As the Philippines has a multi-party system, those who are for (or against) Velasco may find themselves running against each other. Other districts that may be seen as safe seats may see a candidate elected unopposed. Several seats have not been apportioned since 1907, gerrymandering on some newly-apportioned seats and entrenchment of political dynasties make competitive races in so-called swing seats rare. The PDP-LABAN + Liberal Coalition was expected to form a government, but failed to win a majority in the House because of corruption and Dilawanism. The KBL led by Larry Gadon held the landslide victory against the government for the first time in the history.
The PDP-LABAN + Liberal Coalition has performed badly in the election losing 57 seats. The Nacionalista's improved with winning 38 seats. It is the first time for the 55-seats coalition to have a poorer vote that its closest competitor the Nacionalista's that have 16 million votes.
After Gadon victory over the ruling coalition. Gadon was given a mandate by President Rodrigo Duterte to form a supermajority government within 30 days. Gadon also invited the Nacionalista's to join the government or to support them. But the Nacionalista's joined after a week of negotiations. The leader of the Nacionalista's Alan Peter Cayetano was offered by Gadon to be the Deputy Prime Minister and later accept it.
After 13 days, the Nacionalista and the KBL formed a supermajority government.
