Revision as of 14:33, 8 July 2020

The 2020 FISA World Cup is an upcoming sporting event to be played from June 11-July 12 of 2020 in Morocco. It will be the first time that an African nation has hosted the world's premier soccer tournament. The games will be held in 14 venues in 12 cities. Unlike many previous tournaments, many of the stadia in this tournament will be temporary and built using modular construction methods and be disassembled safely and renewably after the tournament. The opening match and the final will be hosted at the brand new 95,000 seater Grand Stade de Casablanca, while the semifinals and third place will be at the Stade de Marrakech.

Qualification, Seeding and Draw

Qualification

All four confederations - UEFA, CONAM, CONAF and AFC - held qualifying rounds leading up to the World Cup. Chile, the defending World Cup and Hemisphere Cup champion, failed to qualify, the first time in the history of the World Cup that the defending Cup holder did not participate in the succeeding tournament.

Iceland, Cabo Verde, Bavaria, Malaya and Trinidad and Tobago all will make their World Cup debut. (Austria is making its debut under that national side name, but FISA considers them the direct successor of the Danubia national soccer team).

Seeding and Draw

The draw for the 2020 FISA World Cup was held in Tangier on December 5, 2019. The seeding for the draw was in four pots organized by FISA World Ranking position, rather than confederation membership, the first time the draw was conducted in this fashion.
