The 2020 Halovirus Epidemic is an outbreak of pneumonia originating in Shanghai, China. Over 17,767 cases have been confirmed and 4,640 have died. Much of the initial victims of the virus had visited a food market in eastern Shanghai. A state of emergency has been declared in China as a result. Most cases are in China while the first cases have recently been confirmed in KoreaJapan, Cascadia, and Mexica, France, Byzantine Empire.

According to the Imperial Chinese Government, the first case of the Halovirus was confirmed on June 12, 2020. An investigation was launched on June 16.

The vast majority of early victims had visited a food market in eastern Shanghai. The earliest known individual with symptoms fell ill on June 13. He had had links to the food market and so as the thirteen other first cases. The scientific consensus is that the virus of zoonotic origin and has a natural origin. Many scientists have traced the carrying of bat carcasses and traditional Chinese medicine to the outbreak.
