Plot[]
In June 2003, a mutated Ebola virus known as the Rage virus originating in England started spreading across continental Europe. Despite NATO's best efforts, the Virus soon took many major cities, with NATO pulling back to eastern Germany, Southern Italy, the Iberian peninsula, and south Danubia. After a stable line was created, a large wall of barbed wire and towers was created to protect the rest of Europe as the virus starved, which by 28 Months after its spread has 2.5 million Infected left and only around 500,000 survivors left.
In the "present year" of October 2005, NATO personnel James Crittenden and his squad crash-lands in the former nation of the Netherlands while finding survivors, where a group of infected soon attack them. After killing some infected and former teammates he is saved by a survivor named Christine. She leads him to a group of survivors near Amsterdam and after deciding to stay there until NATO forces arrive, they moved west towards Germany, where there is less infected and NATO forces can save them.
While walking through Amsterdam, they encounter Tammy (28 Weeks Later), who they take in order to create a vaccine with her antibodies. In the former Military base of Beekhuizerzand, they discover a group of military officers. After getting captured by them due to Tammy's infection. They attempt to broadcast their surviver for safety to no avail and decide to take Tammy for "safety". It is discovered they will kill Tammy for a vaccine, causing them to release an infected to distract them and Rescue Tammy. Unfortunately for them, only James, Christine, Tammy, and 2 others escaped as the soldiers burn down the base to kill the infected.
As they arrive in Hamburg with an old military truck, they decide to use an airport to go to Poland to save themself. They soon find a broadcast using a radio station and find out that the US military will firebomb Germany to see the rest of Europe. After finding the Hamburg Airport was infested with infected, they accident alerted the infected and they had to flee. The eventually found a finish navel caption from an earlier mission who decides to help them try to escape with an old boat. They began to jumpstart the boat, but one infected soon gets on and lets in a flood of others. As they escape, they find a helicopter and successfully signal it with a flare gun, carrying all 6 of them to safety in Scandinavia.
In a Post Credits scene we are shown NYC 2.8 years after James and his squad crashed in the Netherlands, in late July 2008, a group of the infected emerge at the LBJ airport in Queens with a view across the Hudson to the World Trade Center, revealing the virus has finally spread to the Americas.
