Aaron Stanford (born December 27, 1976) is an American actor, writer, and film producer. He first rose to prominence for his performance as Pyro in X2 and X-Men: The Last Stand, and as the titular character in the Spider-Man franchise. From 2010 to 2013, he starred as Birkhoff in Nikita. He also starred as a fictionalized version of himself on Chris Farley's short-lived comedy show Blasphemers. He has been nominated for one Academy Award in his overall career.
Stanford was born in Westford, Massachusetts, and attended Westford Academy for high school and met his first acting teacher there. He initially attended SUNY Purchase, but transferred to Rutgers University Mason Gross School of Arts. He graduated in 2000, magna cum laude. He began acting in the late 1990s, appearing in a commercial promoting Cartoon Network's show Curbside. Stanford's first major film role was in the low-budget indie film Tadpole (2002), in which he portrays Oscar Grubman, a precocious 15-year-old with a crush on his stepmother, played by Sigourney Weaver. For this performance he earned a nomination for the Golden Satellite Award. He later gained critical acclaim for his performance as Doug in James Wan's 2006 remake of the cult film The Hills Have Eyes (1977 film) The Hills Have Eyes.
A versatile actor, Stanford has appeared in over 70 films in his career, and is often known for playing weak but successful protagonists. In recent years, he has published two memoirs, and is an executive producer for the upcoming film Ninety-Five Reasons Why I Abstain, a biographical comedy film about the life of Martin Luther coming out in the summer of 2023.
