Abkhazia (Abkhaz: Аҧсны; Russian: Абхазия) is a republic of the Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics located in the Caucasus. The republic is dominated by the Abkhaz, who are a Caucasic-speaking. Once an autonomous republic of Georgia, Abkhazia chose to remain part of the Soviet Union in the 1990s. The capital of Abkhazia is Sukhumi.
