Italian East Africa (1938–1941)

The administrative divisions

Italian East Africa (Africa Orientale Italiana) was created by unifying the colonies of Eritrea and Italian Somaliland with the conquered Abyssinia (Italy's King Vittorio Emanuele III was proclaimed emperor of Abyssinia after this). General governor since 1937 is duke Amedeo of Savoy-Aosta. The "races" have been separated similar like under (not yet invented) Apartheid in South Africa.

There are 280,000 soldiers in the colony. There have been 180,000 natives killed. Even the Orthodox church is attacked by the fascists because they suspect her to assist the resistance. Benito Mussolini had estimated that the conquest would cost Italy four to six thousand million Lire; the true number is beyond 30 thousand millions.
