Alternative History

Aerosmith were an American rock band formed in Boston in 1970. The group's final lineup consisted of Steven Tyler(lead vocals),Ray Tabano(guitar),Tom Hamilton(bass),Joey Kramer(drums), and Jimmy Crespo(guitar). Their music was rooted in blues-based hard rock.

The band released a string of multi-platinum albums starting with their debut in 1973,a feat that continued to 1979. For much of the 1970s,the band toured extensively and charted numerous Hot 100 singles. By the end of the decade, they were among one of the most popular hard rock bands in the United States and developed a following of fans.

Drug addiction and conflict led to the departures of Perry and Whitford in 1979 and 1981. The band did not fare well and decided to announce a United States tour, which was to be in the top 100 most populated cities of the United States. On the first tour,on the way from Boston to South Bend, the band, along with everyone else on board, with the exception of the pilot, died in a plane crash near Erie,Pennsylvania. The story became a media sensation for several weeks, and Aerosmith's music briefly became a trend.

Aerosmith has won 5 awards and sold over 32.3 million records worldwide. They were posthumously inducted in the Rock'n Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
