Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (born October 13, 1989), also known by her initials as AOC, is a Californian politician serving as the MP for Cerro Colorado. Since August 2019 she has also served in the Second Sanders Ministry as Assistant Minister for Climate Change.

Ocasio-Cortez drew national recognition when she became the Progressive nominee for the seat of Cerro Colorado, challenging Democrat Eric Morales. She defeated the 10-term incumbent in what was widely seen as one of the biggest upset victories in the 2018 federal election, alongside several other Progressive gains that solidified the party's senior position in the Coalition.

Taking office at age 29, Ocasio-Cortez is the youngest woman ever to serve in the Parliament of California. She has been noted for her substantial social media presence relative to her fellow MPs. Ocasio-Cortez majored in international relations and economics at ULA, graduating cum laude in 2011. She was previously an activist and worked part-time as a waitress and bartender before running for Parliament in 2018.

Ocasio-Cortez is among the first female members of the Democratic Socialists of California elected to serve in Parliament. She advocates a progressive platform that includes Medicare for All, a federal jobs guarantee, the Green New Deal, abolishing the Californian Border Force, free public college and trade school, and a 70% marginal tax rate on millionaire fortunes.
