Location of Central Highlands within Indochina
The Alliance of Indochinese Ethnic Minorities is a political party founded on 1970 to represent the 59 ethnic minority groups located in the Central Highlands provinces. It is currently the smallest political party in the Federal Assembly.
The Alliance was formed as a spin-off from the United Front for the Liberation of Oppressed Races (FULRO), a militant organization seeking to create a nation-state independent from Indochina. Because secessionist groups are ineligible for participating in federal elections, and due to FULRO being labelled by the federal government as a terrorist group, the Alliance was founded as a more moderate and non-violent political party that seeks to improve economic and political power of Central Highlands ethnic minority people within the existing federal system.
The Alliance also participates in provincial elections in Central Highlands. It is the largest political party in all four provinces of the Central Highlands.
