These are the rules for behavior on the Althistory Wiki. The rules on how to write and organize our content can be found at Conventions in Use in This Wiki.

Wikia Guidelines

As part of Fandom (formerly Wikia), we abide by the Community Guidelines for matters of behavior and the Terms of Use for legal matters. In short: respect others, respect the purpose of this wiki, be appropriate, be at least 13 years old, and don't steal copyrighted content.

Prohibited actions

The following actions are not allowed on this wiki. TSPTF members are empowered to enforce them through warnings and blocks.

  • Incivility: We expect debate and disagreement, but attacks and name-calling are not acceptable. Neither is saying something to intentionally annoy or provoke another user. Incivility on chat will result in a kick; if it carries over onto the wiki pages it will earn further action.
  • Spamming: Spam is the incessant repetition of the same thing - characters, words, text, concepts, or media - in a short amount of time. In general, we consider something to be spam when it is repeated more than five times within a week, though this is intended as a general guideline rather than a strict limit. As such actions are often done by bots, the natural consequence is a block for a very short period of time in order to break the automation. Further offenses result in increasingly long blocks or bans from Chat, as appropriate.
  • Trolling: Trolling is posting content or discussion that is clearly offensive, disturbing, or intended to provoke an emotional reaction. It may include unnecessarily graphic depictions of gore, violence, or sex. Such behavior earns a block from the wiki or a kick or ban from Chat.
  • Slurs: Certain words reflect and spread hatred toward groups of people who make up our community, whether based on race, gender, religion, nationality, or sexual orientation. The use of slurs will result in a warning, then a kick or block; a permanent ban or longer block will result if the problem persists.
  • Personal threats: A personal threat means threatening to inflict physical, psychological, or social harm on another user, either on- or offline. If the target feels genuinely threatened by the action, the perpetrator could face long-term or permanent suspension.
  • Dishonesty - Lying to other users is a sign of bad faith and is grounds for a block.
  • Multiple accounts: Users may change the name of their account according to Fandom's rules. However, no user may have multiple accounts at the same time. Any violation of this “altaccounts” or “sockpuppeting” results in an immediate permanent block for one of the accounts, and suspension for the original. This is enforced by IP address, even if the accounts actually belong to different human beings. (Multiple people using sockpuppet accounts on the same device is also known as meatpuppeting, although this also takes other forms).

Chat

The Chat application exists to provide a quick communication tool between the members of AltHistory Wiki. Its main purpose is to discuss timelines and other wiki content, but off-topic discussion is allowed as long as it remains civil and appropriate. The same rules for participation on the wiki apply in Chat; TSPTF members have the power to temporarily kick people from Chat if they cannot maintain this standard, or ban them permanently if the problem continues. Bans on Chat tend to be shorter than blocks from editing the wiki itself.

Adding to timelines

If you want to add content to a page that someone else created, respect for the creator means following the correct procedure. Nobody wants other people messing around with their own creative work.

  • Some projects here are community timelines that anyone can add to; each of these has its own rules for contributing new content. Read and follow the directions on the project's main page.
  • Other timelines are the creative work of one person or a small, closed group. To add content to these, you need the creators' permission.
  • If a timeline has been abandoned, you can adopt it following the Adoption Policy.

Map Games

Map games are run by the Map Games Oversight Committee, and the rules can be found at that page. Presently, we are only running one map game at a time.

Religion and Politics

Our policy on real-life political and religious debate is summed up as "No Cross, No Crown". It means that we should discuss politics and religion only as they relate to our alternate timelines. Avoid arguing about these topics in the context of real life (OTL).

Equality

While the Althistory Wiki recognizes and accepts the special needs of certain individuals, no one is exempt from the standards of conduct that all editors must abide by. No physical or mental condition shall be considered cause to suspend the enforcement of any policy or guideline.
