Out of curiousity, who or when was it proposed to called the USA "columbia" ? was it during the period leading to independence or later ?--Marcpasquin 18:52, 22 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- Dunno. I've never heard that particular proposal. -- Nik 00:53, 23 Jul 2005 (UTC)
Wasn't fredonia a name from a Marx brother film ?
- Here is a good web site called "Footnotes to History", about nations which no longer exist. It would be a good source for alternate histories, as well as alternate place names.

Also, I read somewhere that when the US State of Washington was about to be admitted to the union, the people there thought of calling their state, Columbia, but thought it would be confused with the District of Columbia, so they called it Washington instead.

Maybe we can add names for the countries in ATLs on the wiki?
