Amalric II was King of Spain and nominal Western Roman Emperor from 745 to 759. He became the heir after his brother, Theoderic III , predeceased their father, Tulga II , and was elected king and emperor shortly afterwards. Amalric oversaw the continuing separation of the four West Roman realms and consolidated his Spanish kingdom as an effectively independent state, but was still recognized as first among equals by his cousins in Italy, Africa and Burgundy.

Amalric died in 759 and was briefly succeeded by his son, Alaric .
