The American Democratic Revolution was a period of political and social revolution that broke out on November 4th 1911. It saw the end of the one party state in the United States and a transition to a new democratic era. But it also saw some political instability in America.

Background[]

The United States became a one party state in 1867 in the aftermath of the American Civil war. They banned the Democratic party and other pro slavery parties. The Republicans established an authoritarian government however though they did allow the US constitution to remain intact however though the Republicans have become deeply fractured. They are divided into factions. In 1909 Teddy Roosevelt resigned due to health issues and was succeeded by William Howard Taft. William was corrupt and wanted to change the US constitution. He increased the taxes for his lavish luxury and he replaced Teddy Roosevelt loyalist with his own friends and advisers. As a result Teddy split the party forming the Progressive party. Many people began protesting against economic and political policies. Taft responded by cracking down on the protesters. Teddy contacted the exiled Democratic party led by Woodrow Wilson. When Taft discovered this he banned the Progressive party. This cause outrage within the American people and so revolution broke out beginning the American Democratic Revolution.

Aftermath[]

Wilson crushed the other revolutionary, reactionary and separatist movements in the country and restored stability in the country. Democracy in America was restored as well as the US constitution. Wilson will remain in office until 1920 when he was succeeded by Teddy Roosevelt as the second president to serve non-consecutive presidential terms. The Republican party was allowed to remain in american politics. Wilson established the three party system. The three major political parties are the Progressives, the Democrats, and the Republicans.
