Citzens are usually subject to three levels of goverment: federal, state, and local; the local government's duties are commonly split between county and municipal governments. The federal goverment is divided into 3 branches: Executive Branch, Legislative Branch, and Judicial Branch.
Executive Branch
The executive branch is commander-in-chief of all of the Federations Armed Forces, can veto legislative bills before they become an law, and appoints mebers of the cabinet. The executive branch also oversee's state ambassadors, managing, and determining foriegn policy.
Legislative Branch
The legislative branch is allowed to declare war on other nations, makes an federal law, approves treaties, has the power of the purse, and has the power of impeachment, which it can remove sitting members of government. The House of Representatives has 234 voting members, each representing a congressional district for a two-year term. House seats are apportioned among the states by population every tenth year. As of the 2000 Census, seven states have an maxinum of one representative.
Judicial Branch
The judicial branch is the Supreme Court and lower federal courts, whose judges are appointed by the president with Senate approval, interpret laws, and over turn those that are found unconstitutional.
Parties and ideology
The American Federation is operated under a two-party system. Republicans is considered central-right or conservative and the Democratic Party is considered central-left or liberal. The states in the Great Lakes region are considered more "blue states" or liberals. The "red states" in the Great Plains are considered very conservative.
Economy
Foriegn Relations

Energy
The energy consumption of the American Federation is the largest in North America and the third largest in the world, right underneath China and the USSR. The California Republic has encouraged the American Federation to begin the process of switching from non-renewable to renewable rescources; California helped the federation by building two wind farms in Missouri, these plants are meant to power St.Louis and the surrounding community's. Major gas corperations begin to feel threaten by the increase in renewable rescources and the decrease in non-renewable rescources. California began the process of decomissioning for the Three Miles Island and replacing it with two massive windfarms that are expected to take up the whole island. Even with this help from California, non-renewable rescources are still in use in the majority of the American Federation.
