Great Nuclear War

With the War, bombs fell on the Capital of Anhui, Hefei, putting the Province into chaos. Over the next decade, the area was reduced into little more than City States, Warlordoms and Cliques.

However, one city state was stronger than the rest: Huiabei. After the destruction of Hefei, Huiabei was left as the largest city. Indeed, many refugees from other provinces fled to the city and its fertile territories. From 1978, Huiabei began to meet with other local leaders from the surrounding leaders. There it was decided to break down trade and travel barriers between the cities, and to co-operate, declaring the Anhui Confederated Cities. To defend against marauders, a United Militia was set up, and Farming Co-operatives united. Additionally, various experts from around these cities began to meet in Huiabei, where they worked together, but also advised the local government.

Over the new few years, more and more cities began to join the Confederation. At the same time, the experts began to have more and more influence over government, eventually forming their own advisory council.

By 1984, much of Northern Anhui was under the control of the Conferation, and leaders met again to discuss their future. In 1985, with much pressure, the United Technate of Anhui was declared, with the Council of Experts, renamed the Technocratic Council, as the legislature. The lower chamber of the legislature was to be elected every 5 years, which appointed 9 Members to the Council. This allowed democratic elections, whilst allowing experts, rather than politicians who appealed to the electorate, to control the country.

Anhui is governed by the Technocratic Council, a group of 9 experts appointed by an elected Council. Each member is an expert in the one of the following: Defence, Diplomacy, Economy, Education/Research, Environment, Exploration, Health, Industry and Justice.

Anhui is extremely agricultural, described as a "Big Agricultural Province", though this has often been used as an euphemism for a very poor area. Despite this, the nation has been very stable, and has been able to trade its produce with surrounding cities for much needed goods.

Due to its varied climate, Anhui is able to grow a variety of crops. Whilst the north of the Huai He river Sweet Potatoes are grown, to the South Rice is. The entire province also grows Wheat.

Natural resources include iron in Ma'anshan, coal in Huainan and copper in Tongling. The government is currently planning the construction of Steel Works, though electricity will first need to be improved.
