Aragon or the Aragonese Commonwealth (Aragonese: Comunidat Aragonesa) is a country localized in the eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula in Europe. The nation borders France to the north, the Mediterranean Sea to the east and south, Castile to the west, and the Basque Country to the northwest. Its territory also includes the archipelago of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea.

As most of the Iberian Peninsula, Aragon is a post-Spanish state. Originating from the Second World War, along with the Basque Country, Aragon was a French-controlled zone. Initially divided between three provisional republics (Aragon, Catalonia, and Valencia), the three nations reached an agreement with the Treaty of the Three Nations and establishing the Aragonese Commonwealth, with Catalan becoming the lingua franca. Such as the Basque Country, Castile, and Galicia, Aragon held a referendum to a monarchy, being rejected due to the participation of the Spanish crown in the Nationalist regime.

The country is an equal federation, sometimes even considered an equal confederation, which includes the three nations that signed the Treaty of the Three Nations: the Aragonese, the Catalans, and the Valencians. Aragon was chosen as the name of the country due to the historical meaning, and Catalan was used as a lingua franca by the population. Currently, 57% of the population uses Catalan as the main language, primarily concentrated in Catalonia and Valencia, while Aragonese is mostly concentrated in the Western region, spoken by 23% of the population. Spanish is still spoken in the country, albeit by 20%, and the number of speakers tends to drop every year.

As Castile and the Basque Country, Aragon is considered a secular democracy, although it uses the parliamentary system. It is a major developed country and a high-income country, considered the richest between all the post-Spanish states. It is a member of the Society of Nations, the European Union, the Council of Europe, the Organization of Ibero-American States, the Iberian Federation, and the World Trade Organization.
