Argentina, officially the United Republics of Argentina (Spanish: Repúblicas Unidas de la Argentina) is a country located in South America. It borders Chile to the west and south, Paraguay and Peru to the north and Rio Grande, Santa Catarina, Brazil to the east. Covering an area of more than 3 million km2 that makes it the largest country in South America. It is also the most populated in the continent with almost 175 million people according to the last census.

Human presence in what is today Argentina can be traced back to the Old Stone Age. The Cueva de las Manos (Spanish for Cave of the Hands) is a cave located in the Patagonia Region with cave art made between 7,300 BC and 700 AD. The Inca Empire controlled in the north and northeast of the territory until the arrival of the Spanish Empire. The Spanish established the port of Buenos Aires in 1536, that would quickly rise to prominence during the following centuries of colonization, later becoming the capital of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. Following the start of the Isllaqakunasuyu War of Independence, the balance of power within the Empire is changed, with New Granada and New Spain losing relevance to the rich and populated Río de la Plata, causing a revolution led by a series of figures known as the Padres de la Patria (Fathers of the nation). Cornelio Saavedra led the revolutionary army during most of the subsequent war, eventually becoming the first President of the country and carving up the state of Bolivia with Perú. The early independent years were focused on the organization of the government and provinces. President Julio Argentino Roca launched a campaign that achieved colonization over most of Patagonia and the Pampean Region. After a short war that involved Argentina against Chile, Brazil and the British Empire, Argentina established itself as a regional power during the late 19th century. Considered the main victorious power of the Great Game, Argentina is currently the greatest military power of the Americas, with political and cultural influence all over the world.

The argentine government works as a presidential constitutional republic under three separate branches. The territory of the nation is organized under a federation of 29 provinces and one autonomous district that also serves as capital and largest city.

Argentina is one of the largest economies in the world and largest in the continent. It ranks high in terms of wealth, productivity and economic freedom.
