Argentina, officially the Argentine Republic, is a sovereign state in South America. It is bordered by Chile to the west, Bolivia to the north, and Paraguay and Brazil to the northeast. It is bounded by the South Pacific Ocean on the east and southeast. It has a surface area of 2.7 million square kilometers, making it the second-largest country in South America and the eighth-largest in the world, and a population of over 44.9 million people, ranking third in South America and 38th globally.

Argentina was formed in 1818, when José de San Martín liberated the country from Spain. Argentina dealt with many rebellions across the south, most notably the Patagonian natives. Due to this, rebellions continued throughout the 19th century and to the early 20th century.

In 1950, Falangist Chile invaded Patagonia to retrieve what the Chilean government called "Enemies of the State". In response, Argentina intervened because the Chileans invaded without a declaration, which violated Argentina's neutral policy. The war ended in a stalemate, in which Argentina would occupy northern Chile while Chile would occupy Patagonia.

Because Chile's industrial heartland is in the north, Argentina took full advantage of the occupation, boosting the already ailing economy. With the extra support, Argentina would not fall into an economic collapse, and instead protected its economy.

In 1980, it experienced an economic boom after the mines in northern Chile were bought by the state. Although Argentina is in a frail position, with criticism of Falangism, like Chile, it is still a tourist attraction like in the Pampas or Buenos Aires.

In 1999 the “Sun of May” riots broke out in Bueno Aires which gained a lot of momentum and the protestors made the Junta flee to Patagonia but later the army would return along with the navy blockading them and the Air Force bombarding them. 50.000 people were killed, 7 of which were Military personnel. Although people used the chaos to escape to Paraguay and Brazil.

Sports[]

Association football (soccer) is popular in Argentina. The Argentine national team has won the FIFA World Cups of 1935 in Brazil and 1980 in England. The country also hosted the 1960 edition, in which their team lost to the Soviet Union in the final. In the 2020 edition in the Confederate States, Argentina again lost but this time in the runoff for third place to France.
