Argentina, officially the Argentine Republic, is a sovereign nation in South America. Argentina is bordered by Chile to the west and south, and Brazil and Andea to the north. Argentina compromises of La Plata, Northern Chile, and the Falkland Islands.
History[]
Argentina was founded after the peaceful independence from Spain, who had recently been attacked by Imperial France. Argentina has strange borders, some which were entire exclaves. So, in 1849, Argentina declared war on Brazil and Andea to gain the Sucre and Chaco regions.
During the war, Brazil managed to push the Argentinian line all the way to the Paraguay river. Brazil annexed all the lands east of the river, and left the war. Without Brazil in the war, the Argentinians quickly scrambled to the Andean front, but the Andean army had captured all of Chaco and the Arica region.
Argentina remained neutral after the war, losing large portions of lands. (The Cisplatine War never happened because of this). Once in a while, rebels would try ad gain independence, but every single time, it was repealed by the Military.
In 1933, Chile fell to a Falangist Coup, which declared the Chilean State. Although Chile had been a small actor in South American Politics, the Argentinian government was worried that Chile might eventually overthrow the Argentinian Republic.
However, against all odds, in 1945, the Republic fell to a Communist Dictatorship. A Coup was performed, but it failed, so the Communists stationed in Mendoza. The Communist army quickly swept by the Argentinian cities before making it to Buenos Aires. The City was captured, and the government went into Exile in Andea.
The People's Republic of Argentina continued until 1966, when both Andea and Brazil aided a "Liberation" of Argentina. The Communist Regime collapsed, and the Republic was restored.
In 1973, a American-backed Coup replaced the weak, decentralized Republic with a Military Junta. The Junta still allowed lots of freedom for the people. The Military had power, but only in the shadow. The President remained the head of State.
