Arizona comprises, more or less, OTL US states of Arizona, Utah, west Colorado and north New Mexico, and the Mexican state of Sonora.
History[]
During the Monterrey civil war of 1852, Arizona claimed independence in 1853. In 1854, the Arizonan army defeated the Monterrey army in Albuquerque, which stopped all Monterreyan expeditions to prevent the Arizonan secession.
In 1856, the Arizonan army attacked California intending to grab Baja California and OTL Nevada and Utah. California naval superiority and the support of the United Kingdom, preserved Baja and Arizona, preventing a new participation of Monterrey, backed off in 1858, limiting the claims to the Great Salt Lake area.
In 1862, Monterrey recognized the independence of Arizona.
Slavery[]
Given that Monterrey had already banned slavery, Arizona never held slaves. All Arizonans are equal subjects regardless of color or creed.
