Imperial Brazilian Army[]
Overview[]
The armed forces of Brazil are the largest in Latin America by active personnel and the largest in terms of military equipment. It consists of the Brazilian Army (including the Army Aviation Command), the Brazilian Navy (including the Marine Corps and Naval Aviation), and the Brazilian Air Force. The standing army of the Empire of Brazil came into existence after they secured their post-colonial independence in 1822.
In 1822 and 1823, the Imperial Army was able to defeat the Portuguese resistance, especially in the north of the country and in Cisplatina, also preventing the fragmentation of the newly proclaimed Brazilian Empire after its war of independence.
Presently, the Brazilian Army fields a very combat capable army for its size, fielding indigenous and western equipment to its fullest extent.
