Asia is the largest and most-populated continent on Earth, having a land mass of 44,579,000 square kilometers and a population of over 4.69 billion. In the west lies the Middle East, home to deserts, the Mediterranean coastline and one of the world's oldest civilizations, Mesopotamia. The north is home to the east parts of Russia, which includes Siberia, a vast and cold region. The east is defined with nations like China, Korea, and Japan. South Asia, or the Indian subcontinent, is a huge and diverse region home to many fauna, animals, and ethnic groups. In the southeast lies the jungle-dense Indochinese Peninsula and Malay Archipelago. The center is the Turkestan region, where Persian and Turkic peoples make up the majority.
