Note: As the creator of this page I want to express that in my opinion this is wikia, anyone can add to and edit this page. I encourage discussion on the talk page and group development for one man's view is narrow but the view of many is broad.
Note from BaronJoshua: Well... that 1980 event is counter to the aim of the project but I failed to set rules so... guess this timeline has concluded as proceeding past that point would not achieve what it set out for. So lesson to all of you here; establish rules before opening a timeline to the community.
Atomic Age is a timeline focused on the development of Atomic technology on a global scale with the aim of creating a timeline where the use of Atomic Technology is as globally widespread as possible.
Point of Divergence[]
There are many divergent points in this timeline, but the earliest (so far as the timeline is still being developed by the community) is in 1960 where we have the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada remaining firm on it's position regarding Nuclear Weapons for Canada rather then flip flopping from pro to anti_nuclear in what became a major controversy in the nation. The second divergent point, which will likely have a great impact on the timeline, is Iran remaining a progressive Monarchy and thus continuing to receive foreign support for it's Nuclear Program. This alteration makes the middle east significantly different then that of our timeline. In brief, due to the global focus of this timeline (the aim of generating an alternate history where Atomic Technology is globally widespread) various divergent points in various parts of the world have occurred.
Timeline[]
- 1914: H.G. Well's book "The World Set Free: A Story of Mankind" is published. It details the development of Nuclear Hand Grenades (Thorium Based) in a projected future where a world war utilizing such weapons leads to devastation and technological regression from which a world government arises.
- 1940: Robert A. Heinlein's "Blow Ups Happen", a short story about a Nuclear Reactor being unstable and the staff of the energy station working to contain the fission, is published in Astounding Science Fiction and Fact Magazine.
- 1945: Atomic Bombs are dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki effectively ending the 2nd World War.
- 1952: Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, a crown corporation, is established in Canada. It becomes Canada's leading provider of Nuclear Energy in the decades to come.
- 1953: The US under President Dwight D. Eisenhower launches the Atoms for Peace program as part of Operation Candor.
- 1954: The World's first Nuclear Powered Submarine, the USS Nautilus is launched. Homi J. Bhabha of India presents a three-stage Nuclear Program during the 'Development of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes' Conference, which is attended by India's first Prime Minister. Sweden purchases Nuclear Weapons from the USA and the R1 reactor becomes operational at the Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden).
- 1955: First design drafts for Swedish built Nuclear warheads are completed.
- 1957: Iran cooperates with the US to develop Nuclear Energy as part of the 'Atoms for Peace' program.
- 1958: The Indian government adopts the three-stage Nuclear Program. Sweden approves the L-Program (Nuclear Explosive Research).
- 1960: Public knowledge that the CIM-10 Bomarc will carry a nuclear payload. The Progressive Conservative party avoids controversy (and government collapse) by standing with it's position regarding Nuclear Weapons for Canada.
- 1964: The US discontinues the sell of Nuclear Weapons to Sweden due to tension with the Soviet Union. However Sweden is by this point, thanks to the L-Program, Nuclear capable with Plutonium weapons based on designs from 1955.
- 1973: The Oil Crisis of '73 encourages provincial governments in Canada to seek to diversify their energy production though hydro and nuclear options.
- 1974: The Shah of Iran vocally speaks of a time in the future where Oil will be depleted, and the need for Nuclear Energy as an economic alternative to fossil fuels. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran is launched.
- 197X: Quebec Nationalist embrace the Nuclear Energy Option and see it as the gate way to a bright future of Quebec sovereignty and technological grandeur with 40 reactors planned for the province.
- 1979: The Shah's plan to construct 2 Nuclear Power Stations in Iran by the year 2000 comes to fruition.
- 1980:World War III started between Capitalist Bloc and Soviet Bloc
