Augsburg, officially the County of Augsburg is a nation in the German region of Swabia. It was established in 1276 when it was granted the title of Free Imperial city of Augsburg after gaining its independence from the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg. From 1256 onwards it has become a large center of trade due to its strategic location from trade routes from Italy. In of 1510 the richest man in Europe, Jakob Fugger, assumed a role as the De Facto Lord of Augsburg. In 1520, Jakob wanting to focus more on his bussiness had his nephew, Anton, named Count of Augsburg. The county of Augsburg encompassed the whole lands of the Bishopric of Augsburg.
