The United Australian States, or just Australia is a sovereign state located in Oceania. The neighbouring countries include Indonesia to the north and Aotearoa to the south-east.
Before the first landings of the Dutch in the mid 18th Century, the country was inhabited by indigenous Australians who spoke 250 different languages. After Dutch explorers discovered the nation in 1606, they claimed the western part of Australia in 1655, calling the place New Holland.
History[]
European expedition[]
In 1606, the first document of a new land down in the south came from Willem Janszoon who discovered the top tip of what would later be called Kingsland. Later that same year, Luís Vaz de Torres discovered the land and called it Austrialia del Espiritu Santo in honour of the queen during that time. Over in 1616, Dirk Hartog started to sail down the west coast of what was Western Australia. François Thijssen accidentally would discover the south coast of the land as he passed the tip of Australia which would be later be called Van Demons Land. The Spanish on the other hand, was discovering new land down on the east coast with another expedition by Luís Vaz de Torres as he went all the way down the east coast of Australia and call it Nueva España (New Spain). Luís Vaz de Torres though kept the discovery of land further down to himself which he would carry to his grave. Frederick de Houtman would travel up the west coast in 1618 as he passed the area that would be Vlaming.
Twenty years after the expedition, Abel Tasman departed the Netherlands to try and look for land that might be further down the coast. In 1644, Abel Tasman found the west coast of Van Demons Land. He then went turn north-east and would discover the south-east coast of the mainland before sailing towards Aotearoa.
Settlement in the country[]
After another trip down the west coast, this time from Dutch Explorer goes here, the Netherlands decided to settle the country in around about 1665 along what would be the new capital of Vlaming. Seven ships made the journey from the Netherlands all the way to Australia. The east coast would later be colonised ten years later, this time being from Spain as they landed just south of the Puerto Magnifico. Over the next twenty years, the colonisation of the country started to spread away from the landing.
