The weak, struggling empire before the 1914 war was resurrected by its victory alongside Germany in the war. The Austro-Hungarian government, like Germany's, is led by a military general of the 1914 war, who gained great popular support in his country, General Conrad von Hötzendorff. Austria-Hungary maintains a close alliance with the German Empire and Italy. It is a member of the European Alliance.
