History[]
Early history[]
Azerbaijan was once a part of the Second Sasanian Empire and then the Empire of West Persia until it was conquered by the Russian Empire. After the conquest by the Russian Empire, Azerbaijan became nothing more than a province that suffered forced Russification reforms and the people were even forced to convert to Russian Orthodoxy.
Liberation[]
Azerbaijan was liberated by West Persia and turned into a puppet kingdom. The ruler of the kingdom was to be Colonel Mohammad-Hosayn Ayrom, the cousin of Queen Tâj ol-Moluk Âyromlu, the wife of Yazdegerd I. This was Yazdegerd's choice of monarch due to the fact he and the queen was of Azerbaijani ancestry. Colonel Mohammad-Hosayn Ayrom and his family arrived in Azerbaijan to become the official monarchs, however the puppet kingdom was not to be as the allies won the war and the republicans of Azerbaijan had taken control of the nation. Sadly the Republicans failed to repel the Soviet invaders who conquered the nation.
After Soviet Union[]
After the fall of the Soviet Union, Azerbaijan became an independent state. Azerbaijan would build geopolitical relationships with Byzantium and West Persia, which remain some of the strongest ties the nation has to this day.
Political parties[]
The major political parties are:
- Azeri Prosperity Party is the dominant right-wing party and is defined as center-right.
- Social Improvement Party is the dominant liberal party and is defined as social liberal.
- Belief of Tomorrow is the center-left party.
- Glory for the Nation is a far-right party and is defined as nationalist.
Since 1982 each of these parties have held both the premiership and the presidency.
