Balhae (Korean: 발해 Balhae; Chinese: 渤海 Bohai), officially the Republic of Balhae (Korean: 발해공화국 Balhae Gonghwaguk; Chinese: 渤海共和國 Bohai Gongheguo) is a sovereign country located in northeast Asia, within the historic region of Inner Manchuria. The country shares its northwestern border with Russia, its southwestern border with Korea, the southern border with the Bohai Sea and China, and its eastern border with Mongolia. It is a multiethnic unitary constitutional presidential republic.
