Barkley Perry (b. February 5, 1959) is an American Politician who served as Governor of Georgia from 2003 until 2011 and Senator from Georgia from 2015 until 2021, he was also the Chair of the National Conservative from 2004 until 2020 and the party’s Presidential Nominee in 2020.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia and got a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He used his time to train for his hobby of swimming and he was particularly impressive in the backstroke and became the national champion in 1971. In the 1972 Munich Olympics, he won 2 silvers; in the 200 meter back strait and 200 meter backstroke but won the gold in the 400 meter freestyle in which he chose the backstroke and set the world record at 3:20:07 which remains unbeaten. He joined the military in 1974, and won a Purple Heart during a tour in Vietnam. In 1976 he was promoted to Sergeant and in 1979 he was made a Lieutenant. He stayed in the reserves until his retirement in 1989 and was given the rank of Major. He spent time after as a recruiter until 1994.
In 2002, after the retirement of governor Henry Burton, he ran for governor and won against democrat Fred Wilson, republican Andrew Edman, and independent Klara Smith. He would be re-elected in 2006. During his governorship, he continued most of Burton's policies and he managed the CONCACAF to Gold Cup to be held in Georgia. in 2014, he ran for senate...
Early Life
Perry was born in Atlanta, Georgia on February 5th, 1959 to Jeremy Barkley (1940-2017), a baker and Dolly Barkley (1939-2000), a Dance teacher. He attended the University of Georgia and got a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He used his time to train for his hobby of swimming and he was particularly impressive in the backstroke and became the national champion in 1971.
1972 Olympics
Perry was selected to compete on America’s behalf in the 1972 Munich Olympics. He won 2 silvers; in the 200 meter back strait and 200 meter backstroke but won the gold in the 400 meter freestyle in which he chose the backstroke and set the world record at 3:20:07 which remains unbeaten.
Army
In 1974 Perry joined the army and did one Purple Heart-winning tour in Vietnam. In 1976 he was promoted to Sergeant and in 1979 he was made a Lieutenant. He stayed in the reserves until his retirement in 1989 and was given the rank of Major. He spent time after as a recruiter until 1994.
Governor
In 2002 after pestering by family and local business owners Barkley announced that he would run for office but rather then going into the state senate like suggested he rather ran for Governor as a National Conservative but after the term of Henry Burton Georgia had become a state without a regular party and the National Conservatives where in the fight for the state. Perry won with 34% of the votes against the Democrat Fred Wilson’s 27%, Republican Andrew Edman’s 25.7% and Independent Klara Smith’s 24.3%. He was re-elected with 37.7% of the votes in 2006.
He did not disrupt Burton’s popular policies but rather went with the NatCons main Social Policy which is veteran benefits. In 2005 Perry managed to get the CONCACAF Gold Cup to be held in Georgia, bringing major tourism to the state and he used the proceeds to build a new stadium for Atlanta United which in 2010 was renamed Perry Stadium and the team would win the Gold Cup in 2011. He left with an approval rating of 51%.

Personal Life
Perry married Elaine Goldrick (1960) in 1986 in a Quaker ceremony and the pair have a son and a daughter; Matthew (1988) and Lisa (1990).
