The Basmachi State or officially the Islamic Basmachi Republic of Turkestan is a state in Central Asia. It borders Khiva, Burkhara, Uyghurstan, the Russian Republic, the Russian SFSR, Tuva, Mongolia, the Free Tambov Territory, and several small warlord states.
History[]
Basmachi Rebellion[]
After the collapse of the Russian Empire, a coalition of Central Asian independence parties sponsored by Burkhara, Khiva, and Mongolia, arose called the Basmachi movement. They fought for an Islamic government run by Central Asians instead of Russians. The movement gained traction as red and white armies had been killing countless Central Asians for their cause. Russia was severely weakened at the time and the Basmachis were extremely successful.
Basmachi-Tambov War[]
After signing a truce with the Russian SFSR and Republic, the Basmachi provisional state was faced by the Tambov green armies, anarchist peasant warriors in an area above the Caspian Sea. Central Asian peasants were divided on this, with lots of fighting going on between them. Eventually, the Basmachis signed a peace deal with Tambov and recognized them as an independent nation.
