The Battle For Sappen was the last battle of the Troms Civil War. No Troms militiamen died. The battle started the 17th and marked the end of the Independent Republic Of Troms. Sappen is located about ten miles south of Lyngseidet making it easy for the Swedes to locate the remainder of the Troms Government.

Background[]

Background[]

Sappen is located 368 Km away from Narvik. Once the Battle For Narvik ended most of the Troms Command fled on a boat. This took only a few hours to land in Lynseidet where onen-half of the government stayed in Lynseidet and the other one-half took the dangerous trek to Narvik.

Finn Watland and Orjan Sjostrom took their units north to find out the location of the rest of the government. Once Lyngseidet was located by the other units Finn found a back trail to Sappen where the rest of the government was found.

Prelude[]

Once the scouts found Sappen it was only a matter of time until they would capitulate. The first shots were fired in the early hours of the 17th. These shots were fired by Troms. Finn and Orjan both agreed to not fire back as firing back would provoke just a large clash.

Battle[]

The battle started after an offensive was drawn up. First the Swedes will attack with some Sympathizers. The first clashes started at 11:30 AM. Swedes attacked Sympathizer defenses. Brutal fighting followed the order to attack. Swedish and Sympathizers went from house to house killing anyone who was in there. Legend has it that Vegard Valla was killed in a basement of one of those houses. Making their way to the town center they were stopped about 500 feet away by some heavily defended road. Many of the remaining defenders retreated to the town center. The door was busted down within a matter of minutes. At 1:30 in the afternoon on November 17th 1720 The Independent republic of Troms capitulated. Only 200 people were killed and many of the POWS were killed after the end of the war. Most of the parliament members were sent to Stockholm where they were tried and killed.
