The Battle of Covenant was a lengthy campaign fought in and around the port city of Covenant in the territory of Northern Australia during the Pacific War in late 1925. Japan attempted to seize the city in order to establish a beachhead in Australia and force Oceania to sign a peace treaty - however, in a bloody battle that leveled most of the city, the Japanese were unable to take Covenant and after six weeks of aggressive fighting were forced to retreat. Along with the recapture of Port Moresby and the fall of Oahu a few months afterwards, Covenant is regarded as one of the turning points in the war after which Japan and her Asian allies remained largely in retreat.
