The Republic of Belarus (Belarusian: Рэспубліка Беларусь, Respublika Belarus) is a country in Eastern Europe.

In the 1980s, a surge of anti-Nazi demonstrations mushroomed in Eastern Europe. In the Reich Commissariat Ostland, Belarusian nationalists and anti-Nazi German liberal groups began to actively resist the Nazi administration.

Unlike the other uprisings in Eastern Europe, the Ostlander Revolution was a joint efford between Belarusians and Liberal Anti-Nazi Germans - who for the most part, were ex-Nazis and Wehrmacht deserters.

History[]

Much like their Russian-speaking territories, although the Slavs were spared from extermination, Nazi administration rarely ever allowed native Belarusians into positions of power. They did however, create local civil administrations run by ethnic Belarusians.

The Belarusians also underwent a period of quasi-assimilation, adopting German ways and lifestyles. For example, one of these examples was the changing of the Cyrillic script into Latin script for written Belarusian.

Luftwaffe units in the Reich Commissariat of Ostland began to actively rebel, when their generals ordered them to bomb Gandermarie and SS reinforcements into Ostland.

Belarusian nationalists conducted ground attacks against Nazi Germany bases in Ostland.

In the late 1980s however, Belarusian nationalists did not want to share their independence with their German counterparts. Therefore, Vladimir Kusal declared an independent All-Belarusian state, with Minsk as its capital city. Kusal also returned Cyrillic as the alphabet for written Belarusian.
